COLUMBUS, OH – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that it is awarding nearly $40 million for 104 new Service Coordinator grants at properties across the country. These grants represent the first time in more than a decade that HUD has funded new grants for supported affordable housing professionals.
“We are grateful to the Biden-Harris Administration and the team at HUD for recognizing the vital role Service Coordinators play in keeping our nation’s seniors, families, veterans and other vulnerable persons healthy, happy and housed. This nearly $40 million in grant funding demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to building stronger communities, connecting residents in supported affordable housing with essential services and providing a pathway to self-sufficiency for over a half million Americans,” said AASC President & CEO Michelle Missler. “These are the first grants of their kind in nearly a decade, and AASC stands ready to educate, engage and empower a new generation of Service Coordinators in the impactful work they do.”
AASC successfully advocated to the Administration and to Congress for the funding that made these grants possible, and we mobilized our members and partners to use our toolkit of resources that made the application process easier. AASC’s government affairs team spearheaded trainings, grant-writing, and our national Salary Survey to demonstrate the need for increased funding in every part of the country. With more than 700 applications for grants being received, it is evident that the growing demand for supported affordable housing will continue - and AASC remains committed to advocating for additional funds to meet the need of our nation’s greatest challenge.
