Building a positive credit history can help clients reach their goals. In this webinar, participants will learn the importance of credit reports and scores and reviews ways to improve and maintain their credit histories. Participants will also learn about specialized tools that can help justice-involved individuals identify financial challenges to successful transition and obtain and review background screening reports during the employment application process.

2. Understand how to build and keep a positive credit history

About the Presenter

Mary Griffin serves as Senior Advisor in the Office of Financial Empowerment of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection (BCFP).  As Senior Advisor, Mary helps direct policy and manages work related to legal aid partnerships, including the Your Money, Your Goals for legal aid organizations initiative, mobile financial services and issues facing justice-involved individuals. With the Bureau since 2011, Mary helped launch the Office for Older Americans and helped build out the Consumer Education and Engagement Division as well as other agency infrastructure. Earlier in her career, she worked on consumer finance issues as senior counsel with Consumers Union, publisher of Consumer Reports, and on behalf of cooperative, member-owned businesses as Director of Public Policy with the National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA).  She also was an attorney with Maryland Legal Aid early in her legal career. 

Patty Avery is a program specialist in the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection's (BCFP)’s Office of Financial Empowerment, and serves as program manager for Your Money, Your Goals, a toolkit and training program for a range of intermediaries who serve low-income consumers.  She joined BCFPin 2012. Ms. Avery’s work is informed by her stateside experiences as a banker, a leader on Bank On programs and efforts to end homelessness in Indiana as well as her international experience in working with street girls in Brazil.
