One of AASC's primary goals is to “Represent the concerns of service coordinators through interaction with Congress and federal agencies.” As part of our increased visibility and focus on public policy, AASC has contracted with Washington, DC-based aging and affordable housing consultants William F. Benson and Alayna Waldrum.

Benson and Waldrum have extensive experience in aging and affordable housing policy and are recognized experts in these areas. Since we began our partnership with them in October 2016, Benson and Waldrum have assisted in developing public policy strategies and policy platforms, representing AASC at aging and affordable housing coalitions, attending Congressional hearings and providing introductions to other national aging organizations. They also assisted AASC staff with meetings with several key Congressional staffers on Capitol Hill in February.

AASC will continue to work with Benson and Waldrum, as our strong presence in Washington, to educate legislators and policymakers on service coordination and the needs of your residents.

Alayna Waldrum is an affordable housing policy expert and advocate. She has worked as the Associate Director of Public Policy at California Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, and as the Housing Legislative Representative at LeadingAge.

Bill Benson has worked in the aging field for more than four decades at the local, state and national levels, including as State LTC Ombudsman, Senior Congressional Staffer, political appointee at USHHS, and as NAPSA’s National Policy Advisor since the late 90s.
